Sony SDX4-200C AIT-4 has a tape width of 8mm and tape length of 246 Meter, has a native capacity of 200GB and 520GB of compressed data storage. AIT-4 is based on AME-2 (Advanced Metal Evaporation) which helps in higher recording density. Enforced DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) is also employed to improve life. Smoother lubrication is also used to decrease friction and help the tape rotate smoothly. Sony AIT4 offers a fast data transfer rate of 24MB/s (native). The Sony AIT4 SDX4-200C tape media also has a 16KB memory chip Sony SDX4-200C tape cartridge features both an MIC chip (a built-in flash memory chip that stores directory and operational information) and a pure metal magnetic layer designed for maximum capacity and longevity. AIT-4 media’s smooth surface improves electromagnetic conversion characteristics, while a newly developed lubricant reduces friction. An enhanced protective coating minimizes wear on heads and the tape itself.
